Coimbatore: The total COVID cases in Tamil Nadu has crossed the 40,000 mark on Friday. With 40,698 cases, TN has reported 1,982 cases, a highest single day spike.
Coimbatore: The COVID tally in Tamil Nadu crossed the 40,000 mark on Friday. With the virus juggernaut rolling relentlessly across the landscape, the state recorded a precipitous single-day tally of 1927, pushing the overall cases to 40,698.
Meanwhile, Coimbatore has recorded 6 new cases with 3 of them being indigenous and 2 imported. Among the new cases are two travellers from Chennai. Till date, 7676 people have arrived in Coimbatore from various states and countries through 69 flights of which 25 have tested positive.
One of the positives is a 29-year-old male, a resident of Keeranatham here, who flew from Chennai while the other one is a 59-year-old male who travelled via road from Chennai to attend a funeral in Mettupalayam. Both of them have been admitted to ESI hospital for treatment.
The total has increased in Tirupur by one, as the nursing staff who tested positive in Coimbatore has been added to Tirupur's tally. The Nilgiris tested nil today.
Today, Chennai reported 1479 cases taking the Chennai total to 28,924. According to the State health department report, 18,231 people were tested today and the number of total tests done so far in the state is 6,73,906.
The alarming deaths of patients with no comorbidities has raised concern amid the public and health care workers. One such case, a 38-year-old male from Chennai, with complaints of fever, cough for 3 days and difficulty in breathing for 2 days, admitted on May 30 at a private hospital in Chennai, deteriorated with respiratory failure, septic shock, and multi organ failure and eventually succumbed to the virus yesterday, according to the state bulletin.
With 18 deaths reported today, the deadly virus has taken a toll of 367 lives so far, across the state.
On a positive note, 1342 patients have been discharged today from various government and private hospitals after successful treatment, improving the overall recovery count to 22,407.
