Tirupur Corporation sanitary workers protest against non-payment of salary

Tirupur: Tirupur Corporation contract sanitary workers are indulged in a dharna protest, boycotting work against non-payment of salary.

About 900 sanitary workers are employed on contract basis under the Tirupur Corporation. They claimed to have worked even during the curfew which was effected to prevent the spread of the coronavirus but they have not been paid salary for the months of April and May.

They said they have been denied special wages as well and alleged that they were not even provided with their standard salary making it difficult for them to meet their daily needs.

They alleged that the district administration is only offering 300 rupees despite a stipulation of a contract for Rs 420 and accused even that has not been paid in the last two months. They said they will continue the dharna protest until an official announcement is made from the corporation administration..
