Dredging work on the Kodappamund Channel began, to prevent drainage water from the Ooty boat house, mixing into the channel. The project has been allocated Rs.5 crores by the Ooty Municipality.
After inaugurating the restoration work, the District Collector Innocent Divya said, "the dredging and restoration of the 5 Km channel which stretches from Ooty Washermanpet junction to the Central Bus stand, will be completed in six months. This will prevent any kind of waste from mixing into the channel. The project is funded by both the state and the central government and all kinds of encroachments will be removed."
She further said, "Action will be taken on those who dump any kind of waste into the Channel after the restoration work is done", she warned. Municipal Commissioner Saraswathi and many others participated in the event.
