CITU petitions the Coimbatore District Collector against transport authorities acting in contradiction to rules
Coimbatore: State Transport Workers Union has filed a petition with the District Collector alleging that the transport authorities are forcing government bus conductors to show large revenue.
With the curfew being relaxed, people are just returning to normalcy with 50% of government buses operated with 60% of passengers.
The CITU Government Transport Workers Union met the District Collector Rajamani today. In an interview later, the chairman of the organization Paramasivam said that the traffic authorities are forcing conductors to transport additional passengers in buses and the buses wait at the bus stands more than necessary to pile more than 60% passengers in the buses.
He accused the authorities of acting in contradiction with government rules by asking to board more passengers and pressuring the conductors to show more revenue.
He added that the social distancing is not possible with so many passengers on board. He said that the conductors have a tough time dealing with passengers refusing to or not wearing face masks. Hence, they requested to start more buses for the safety of the people.
It was reported that the buses will be cleaned five times daily with disinfectant, but they alleged that it was being done only once.
