Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association to hold peace protests for free electricity
Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association announced that peace protests will be held by hoisting black flags in farms until the Government of Tamil Nadu assures free electricity supply.
Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association Advisory Meeting was held at Dasampalayam Village near Mettupalayam, Coimbatore District to discuss the central government's bill on cancelling free electricity to farmers. The meeting was chaired by state president of the association. Rangasamy. Farmers using electric motors for agriculture participated.
At the meeting, the farmers discussed the impact of the new electricity policy introduced by the central government and urged the Tamil Nadu government not to implement this power. Union state secretary Venugopal said that the Tamil Nadu government should not revoke free electricity at any cost like they did in a few cases like NEET and the Salem Eight-Lane Highway where they somersaulted on the original assurance of non-implementation.
He stressed that free electricity is as important to a farmer like the ventilator to a coronavirus patient. "Peace protests will be held in farms till the Tamil Nadu government promises free electricity supply to the farmers," he said.
