Coimbatore: Corporation sanitary worker Manikandan (35) climbed a cellphone tower in the city and threatened to commit suicide citing problems with his neighbour.
Manikandan, a resident of the Arivoli nagar in Madukkarai police limits, works as a sanitary worker with the Coimbatore Corporation.
It is alleged that Manikandan has been having constant land issues with his neighbour Sumathi. A case has been filed against Manikandan based on a complaint lodged by Sumathi in 2016 following which problems between the two escalated.
Three days ago, when Sumathi fixed CCTV cameras in her house, Manikandan alleged that it has become a problem for his family. He went on to say that the cameras invaded their privacy so much so they could have recorded his family answering nature's calls. This intensified friction between the neighbours.
Following this, Manikandan went on to climb a cell phone tower on Ambedkar Square in the area and demanded that the police should take action against Sumathi. He also threatened to commit suicide if the police fails to do so.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police and fire department officials arrived at the spot . They convinced Manikandan and brought him down from the tower. He was later taken to the police station and investigations are on.
This incident caused a stir in the area.
