Only 7 buses to ply from Coimbatore to Ooty - District administration

Buses restricted to and from Ooty due to increased tourists

The Nilgiris: Only 7 buses to be operated from Ooty everyday since the number of tourists coming into the district has increased.

The district administration has ordered that the Coimbatore to Ooty buses will be restricted at Mettupalayam. Bus and rail transport has been suspended throughout Tamil Nadu for the past two months due to the Corona threat.

Since then, the lockdown has been extended until June 30, after which several relaxations have been made. Tamil Nadu is divided into 8 zones and 50% of the buses were allowed to operate.

Similarly buses started to ply from Coimbatore to Ooty and it was found that several tourists on the pretext of various reasons started coming into Nilgiris. Upon learning this, the district administration has canceled the bus service between Coimbatore and Ooty.

Traffic department officials said that only seven buses were operating from Mettupalayam every morning to transport workers. They added that depending on the crowd, the buses will be moved from 32 seater to 34 seater after complete disinection to ensure safety.
