Face masks mandatory from Monday, violators will be fined Rs.100 - Coimbatore District Collector
Coimbatore: District Collector Rajamani met the members of the press today.
He said, "with movement of people increasing day by day in Coimbatore, it is of paramount importance that the public wear face masks and observe social distancing."
He pointed out that many in the city throw caution to the wind and just do not follow the requisite norms. He said the District Administration is unrelentingly undertaking measures to avoid yet another spread of the virus and on those lines, security and surveillance on the roads will be tightened from Monday.
He added wrongdoers who break the COVID-19-related government orders, such as persons who neglect wearing face masks and observing social distance, will be levied a spot fine of Rs. 100 each and every time they commit the offence. He said the corporation has collected Rs. 4 lakhs in fines from the violators of face mask rule.
He reiterated the importance of institutions and businesses following the government SOPs and said stern action will be initiated against the ones that fail to facilitate social distancing.
The Collector requested the public to be very careful about and analytical of the current situation as Coronavirus has undergone a constitutional change and is not what it was when it spread during the initial stages.
He further said with 54 flights landing at the Coimbatore Airport, the tally of COVID-19 positive travellers stands at 43. He added the positive cases have been dealt with per the government treatment protocol. He said 29 positive patients from various districts are under treatment in Coimbatore and 3 of them have been ventilated.
City Commissioner of Police Sumith Sharan and Corporation Commissioner J. Shravankumar were also in attendance.
