He further reminded people of his earlier warning that he would come down to Coimbatore to protest against the arrests of the DMK cadres if they continue unreasonably. He said, "We are not keen on protesting during these times of pandemic, however what is happening in Coimbatore is testing our patience."
Commenting on the actions of Minister S.P. Velumani, he remarked, "S.P. Velumani does not stop with being the Minister for Municipal Administration, he believes himself to be a 'super CM'. However he is fully corrupt. When the ruling government changes, the first in the list of Ministers who would get a jail term is being reserved for S.P. Velumani, his everyday actions ensure that." "He is not just well versed in looting, bribery and malpractices but also in taking revenge on those who criticise him, misuse of power and issuing threats", he charged.
He also noted, "the Minister made sure to imprison those media persons in Coimbatore who wrote against him." "Even during the pandemic crisis S.P. Velumani did not stop looting. The DMK executives have been championing the cause of bringing all of his malpractices to the light and exposing it to the people. S.P. Velumani who cannot face these charges against him has made it a practise to arrest and imprison the DMK executives just because he has the power to do so." he condemned.
"Coimbatore South District Incharge Thendral Selvaraj, Agriculture Wing organiser M.S. Ramamurthy, Kinathukadavu East Union Secretary A. Durai, Keerthi Anand, 84th circle secretary N.G. Murugesan, Trade wing co-organiser Saramedu Ismayil, General Council member M.M.S. Murugan, DMK Youth wing organiser Kottai Abbas were arrested, released and arrested again for exposing the Minister's anarchy", he pointed out.
"Further cases have been filed on Coimbatore East District In-charge MLA N. Karthik, Coimbatore North District Secretary C.R. Ramachandran and Coimbatore West District In-charge M.Muthusamy", he said. He lambasted that, "the Coimbatore District Police department has become the handmaiden of the Minister and keeps arresting the people he points out. When the police officers are interested only in pleasing the Minister, no wonder such incidents happen."
Further he also denounced the Minister stating, "the Minister is arrogant that nobody can question him. He is paying dues to the CM, more than what the CM expects. He is hoodwinked into thinking that people are not aware of the mountains of currency he has accumulated through the Municipal Administration department. Even during the pandemic, he has not stopped his looting. The people are well aware of this."
Talking about the spread of COVID-19 in the state, especially in Chennai, he said, "The main reason for the intense spread of COVID-19 in Chennai is due to the inability of the Corporation administration. The 18,000 infected cases, the 1,000 daily reported cases and 150 lives lost are all proofs of the mismanagement of Minister S.P. Velumani."
"Without any shame he continues to loot, arrest those who expose him, attempt to keep this from getting published and threaten those who expose this. He wastes all his time in this", he charged. "There has been corruption in buying bleaching powder and disinfectants. Corruption is the name of the game. This shameful attitude is sadly not being questioned by the inefficient CM", he commented.
He said, "This is the reason why the DMK decided to condemn this in the midst of the public. Plans were made to conduct a massive protest on June 5. The protest was a huge success under the organisation of the Coimbatore East District in-charge MLA N. Karthik, Coimbatore North District Secretary R. Ramachandran and Coimbatore West District In-charge M. Muthusamy. Care was taken to maintain social distancing among the protestors due to COVID-19." He further noted, "However, the police have arrested thousands of DMK cadres. These protests were held in front of the various corporation and local body offices all over Coimbatore. All those were arrested must be released. Those who were arrested under fake cases must also be released and the cases against them should be dropped."
"If this unhealthy trend continues, we will list out the scandals of the Minister amounting to Rs.3,000 crore and conduct a massive protest against him in Coimbatore", warned M.K. Stalin.
