Coimbatore: MP P.R. Natarajan has filed a petition with the District Collector, Police Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police on behalf of the CPI and CPM insisting on the release of those who were arrested for false cases.
Following this he met the press. Speaking to them he said, "the act of arresting those who speak against the ruling government is an act of crippling the democracy.
When the medical department, local administration, police department and revenue department all over the state involved in protecting the people during the COVID-19 crisis, the Coimbatore district and suburban police are involved in filing false cases against various political party executives. They are also involved in the undemocratic act of arresting and imprisoning these executives in the dead of the night."
"The arrests of DMK District Secretaries and other office bearers, DMK executives and Communist comrades has become a continuing issue. They have only taken the issues of the people to the government and have exposed the anti-people act of the Minister for Municipal Administration and voiced against him. Cases have been filed to scare them", he said.
"This very act of oppressing those who voice out the flaws is an act of crippling the democracy", he charged. Further, he said, "These false arrests cannot hide the truth. Cases against the various politicians must be revoked and we have insisted that strongly in the petition filed with the District Collector, Police Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police."
Former Valparai MLA Arumugam and Coimbatore District Committee Secretary Sundaram on behalf of the CPI and Ramamurthy on behalf of the CPM were present along with the MP.
