1,600 migrant workers travel back to Jharkhand in Shramik train from Tirupur

As per the Central government's instruction to send back migrant workers to their home states, 1,600 workers from Jharkhand were ferried to their home state through a Shramik train.

Tirupur: As per the Central government's instruction to send back migrant workers to their home states, 1,600 workers from Jharkhand were ferried totheir home state through a Shramik train.

More than eight lakh workers are employed at various industries in Tirupur out of which more than two lakh are from North Indian states. Due to the fifth phase of the COVID-19 lockdown that has been extended until June 30, the Central government has insisted that the migrant workers who are stuck in other states be sent back to their home states.

Following this, North Indian workers employed in Tirupur who expressed interest to go back to their home states registered themselves with Revenue Department officials with their cell phone numbers and Aadhaar cards.

Subsequently these workers are being sent back to their home states by train, in batches. A Shramik train carrying 1,600 passengers left from Tirupur for Dhanbad in Jharkhand, today.

The migrant workers who arrived at the railway station were thermal scanned. Following this, they were provided with food and water bottles and permitted to board the train.
