SFI has petitioned the Coimbatore District Collector regarding the reopening of schools

The SFI (Student Federation of India) has petitioned the Coimbatore District Collector to consider the commencement of online classes only after proper internet connection has been established for all students and to prevent the collection of school fees by private schools.

Coimbatore: The SFI has petitioned to the Coimbatore District Collector to consider the commencement of online classes only after proper internet connection has been established for all students and to prevent the collection of school fees by private schools.

The SFI led by its State Secretary Mariappan presented the petition to the Coimbatore District Collector. The petition listed various requests including the revoking of the cancellation of the shift system at government colleges, reopening of schools and involving student representatives in the TN government committee that decides on the learning and teaching aspects.

Speaking to the press later, Mariappan said, "the TN government has announced that the shift system being followed at colleges is to be cancelled. Most of the government college students are from poor families and many of them work part time. Considering this, the government must reconsider its decision to cancel the shift system."

He further said, "many private educational institutions are insisting on the payment of fees for the upcoming academic year. This is against the government's rule to not collect fees until the COVID-19 lockdown comes to an end. Therefore action must be taken against those institutions that violate this rule", he insisted.

"Internet facilities are not available to all students. Hence, only after proper internet facilities have been established for all students should the government consider the commencement of online classes", he added.
