The Integrated Coimbatore District DMK has called for a massive protest against Minister S.P. Velumani and his alleged misuse of power against the DMK cadres to arrest and imprison those who question his actions.
Coimbatore: District DMK led by MLA N Karthik has called for a massive protest against Minister S.P. Velumani on June 5. Pointing misuse of power, the MLA alleged that in the recent times, several DMK cadres those who questioned the Minister's action have been booked under various sections and imprisoned.
Addressing the media here at DMK Head office in North Coimbatore, on Thursday, MLA Karthik accused corruption is rife in the Municipal Administration all over TN.
He pointed that Rs.200 crore corruption has been reported in the purchase of bleaching powder for fumigation work. Sanitary workers have not been provided with proper food or safety equipment, he accused.
Accusing that Minister SP Velumani has been using scare tactics to mute people and DMK cadres who voice against them, he said, the police have become puppets of Minister S.P. Velumani by booking unfair sections on people and arresting them.
MLA N Karthik also noted that in the recent times it has become common to arrest media persons who publish news criticizing Minister S. P. Velumani. "Undemocratic activities that include defamation cases, threats and police action against those who question the activities of the minister make us doubt, if this is a democratic rule or a dictatorship," he opined.
Slamming that AIADMK has been on a spree of blatantly misuing laws by arresting DMK cadres, the MLA pointed at the recent arrest of Coimbatore South District In-Charge, Thendral Selvaraj and other party executives who questioned the unjust activities of the Minister S.P. Velumani.
Condemning such arrests and corruption, the DMK will hold a protest on June 5 in front of Coimbatore Corporation Office between 10 AM to 11 AM, tomorrow. Social distancing and other COVID restrictions will be adhered to, the MLA apprised.
He added that DMK President has already informed of participating in protests, if further unfair arrests or cases are filed against DMK cadres.
