The FOCIA has petitioned the Coimbatore District Electrical Supervising Engineer of Coimbatore North, N. Vivekanandan, requesting not to disconnect power to those industries that fail to pay the EB charges by June 6.

Coimbatore: The FOCIA has petitioned the Coimbatore District Electrical Supervising Engineer of Coimbatore North, N. Vivekanandan, requesting not to disconnect power to those industries that fail to pay the EB charges by June 6.

In the petition it is mentioned that FOCIA consists of more than 20,000 micro and small enterprises. Lakhs of people are being employed directly and indirectly in these industries. These industries contribute significantly to the economic development of the country. However, the economic slowdown that has seized the world in the past two years, these industries have been affected greatly. Additionally, the 65-day lockdown has also impacted it greatly.

They said although the bills for March, April and May 2020 have been granted time for payment until June 6, the extreme economic crisis being faced by the micro and small enterprises may make it impossible for them to meet the payment deadline. This has also been represented to the TN government and a full exemption from paying the EB bills for three months has been requested.

The representatives therefore requested the Electrical Supervising Engineer to not disconnect the power supply to those micro and small enterprises if they fail to make the EB payments by June 6.
