The Coimbatore Singanallur Constituency DMK MLA N. Karthik has been arrested for alleged offences u/s. 153, 504, 505(1)(b) of IPC. The Coimbatore Principal District and Sessions Judge R. Sakthivel granted anticipatory bail him today.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Singanallur Constituency DMK MLA N. Karthik has been arrested for alleged offence su/s. 153, 504, 505(1)(b) of IPC. The Coimbatore Principal District and Sessions Judge R. Sakthivel granted anticipatory bail him today.
The petition submitted on behalf of the MLA stated that the he had not committed any offence as alleged and that he was an innocent person. The petition also stated that he is a law abiding citizen, a sitting Member of Legislative Assembly representing Singanallur Constituency, Coimbatore City, and the Coimbatore District DMK Party District Secretary in-charge.
Stating that the petitioner has been discharging his duties and responsibilities as MLA and DMK party District Leader for the welfare and interest of general public, the petition further stated that the petitioner was ready to produce sureties, that he will not abscond,never tamper evidences and that he will cooperate with the investigation agency.
Judicial custody was demanded by the Public Prosecutor based on a complaint lodged by the Director of Aalayam Foundation Private Limited. Stating that the petitioner is the sitting Member of Legislative Assembly representing Singnallur Constituency Coimbatore City and also holding the post of Coimbatore District DMK Party, District Secretary in charge, it further stated that during this pandemic situation, the Government had taken effective steps to control the situation and issued notification during the lockdown period, and based on that the Minister of Local Administration Minister S.P. Velumani immediately constituted the meeting with the District Collector and other officials to protect the people.
It further stated that MLA N. Karthik is always trying to evade from discharging his official duties. The complaint also stated that the Singanallur MLA, had given false news to 'Kalaignar Seithigal' regarding the Minister and the same was broadcasted. It alleged that he had given the statement rumour with intent to create hatred and ill-will between different classes.
The court perused the arguments and granted anticipatory bail to the MLA and said that he must execute a bond for Rs.50,000. He was directed to sign before the police at 10.30 AM everyday.
