COVID-19: No new cases in Coimbatore, Tirupur and the Nilgiris; 1149 cases in TN

Coimbatore: In a shocking report from the State health department, Tamil Nadu registered its highest single-day spike on Sunday with 1149 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The state's tally now stands at 22,333 cases, while the death toll rose to 173, after 13 new deaths have been reported, today.

Of the 1149 cases, 804 cases are from Chennai and so far 14,802 cases are reported from Chennai. 7891 Chennai patients have successfully recovered from.COVID and discharged. Of the total 173 deaths in the State, 129 deaths are from Chennai.

And, no new COVID cases have been reported in Coimbatore, Tirupur and the Nilgiris district.

Till now 4,91,962 samples have been taken for testing, of which 22,333 positive cases have been reported. 4,68,940 samples

were tested negative, 689 samples are under process and 22,680 samples are repeat samples. So far, 12,757 COVID-19 positive patients have been discharged following treatment. Hence, 9,400 active cases are 

under treatment, as on today. 

The general public are advised to adhere to health and travel advisories issued by the State Government. Public should follow the 

cough etiquette by covering the face using handkerchief/towel while 

sneezing/ coughing and frequently do hand washing with soap and water.
