The Kongu Global Forum, representing 7 Western Districts of Tamil Nadu along with Siruthuli in Coimbatore, Olirum Erodu in Erode, Jeevanadhi Noyyal and Vanathukkul Tirupur in Tiruppur has lauded that the formal inauguration of the “Noyyal River Rejuvenation project” by TN chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy in the presence of Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme SP Velumani has heralded a new chapter in the history of the Kongu Region.
Coimbatore: The Kongu Global Forum, representing 7 Western Districts of Tamil Nadu along with Siruthuli in Coimbatore, Olirum Erodu in Erode, Jeevanadhi Noyyal and Vanathukkul Tirupur in Tiruppur have lauded that the formal inauguration of the “Noyyal River Rejuvenation project” by TN chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy in the presence of Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme SP Velumani has heralded a new chapter in the history of the Kongu Region.
The Forum has been making several representations to the TN Government to initiate Noyyal River rejuvenation project in order to avert a severe water crisis. A host of other NGOs in all these Districts have been relentlessly working for the revival of this river over the past two decades. In a press release, they said the announcement is a long awaited one and has brought a lot of hope to the people of this region. They have expressed their wholehearted gratitude to TN government for the much awaited declaration which will support more than 18,000 Acres of farm lands.
With a lot more to be done, these organizations are now hoping that the announcement of the Chief Minister will significantly improve the water situation of the Kongu region by enabling storage of precious rain water and ensuring a perennial flow. The NGOs also hope that sewage treatment will be an integral part of the project in order to ensure flow of clean water in the River all through the year. They also look forward to working with the Tamil Nadu Government to expedite the project.
Members of Kongu Global Forum and Siruthuli had also called on minister SP Velumani on Saturday 30th May to express their thanks to him for his support in rejuvenating Noyyal river. They said he has assured of all possible assistance to make this region water sufficient.
