FOCIA requests waiving of EB charges from March to June 2020 and Rs. 1 lakh relief amount to unorganised sector

The Federation of Coimbatore Industrial Associations (FOCIA) a collection of 19 associations of MSMEs, have written to the Minister for Municipal Administration and RDI S.P. Velumani with a few requests for industries.

Coimbatore: The Federation of Coimbatore Industrial Associations (FOCIA) a collection of 19 associations of MSMEs, have written to the Minister for Municipal Administration and RDI S.P. Velumani with a few requests for industries.

More than20,000 members of the association are MSME owners. MSMEs in Coimbatore district provide job opportunities for lakhs of people directly and indirectly thereby contributing to the Indian economy in a substantial manner.

They congratulated and thanked the Minister on achieving a COVID-19 free district by undertaking various preventive precautionary measures.

They further thanked and appreciated the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the various measures and notices that have been given out to uplift the MSMEs.

MSMEs have been affected by the worldwide economic slowdown and its impact on India for the past two years. Further all MSMEs have remained closed for the past 60 days due to the COVID-19 lockdown. In order to revive and get back to a healthy state the MSMEs requested the cooperation and support of the government and further placed certain requests.

1. Electricity charges should be waived off from March 2020 to June 2020 similar to the announcements made in Gujarat and Andhra. Electricity usage has been extremely low in the past three months due to the lockdown. Therefore waiving off electricity charges for the past few months will not cause a heavy economic burden on the government.

2. Waiving off MOD creation for newly issued bank loans per the Central Government's order.

3. Provision of Rs.1 lakh as relief amount for unorganised sector units such as wet grinders, stone breaking, iron grill welding, lathe, motor winding, and licensed scale repair.

4. Provision of new loan schemes to all new MSME entrepreneurs from the TAICO bank.

5. The Tamilnadu Industrial Investment Corporation provides loans at 12% interest, but 6% of it is returned as amortized loan currently. This interest should be collected at 6% directly. Further, loan holders must be issued a moratorium of one year and six months' interest on loans (the entire lockdown period) must be waived off.

6. Buses must be operated for the transport of labourers from other districts. MSMEs that began functioning from the day the government gave a go ahead are also following the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the government earnestly. Many North Indian workers have returned back to their home states and thousands of other district workers are not able to report to work due to the lack of transport facilities. The companies do not have enough economic facilities to arrange for E pass for the workers and to transport them from other districts to Coimbatore. The workers who are not able to return back to work are also losing out economically. Therefore we request the government to take measures to begin operating sufficient transport to bring back the workers from other districts into Coimbatore.

7. Representation in the Tamil Nadu Economic Revival Committee on behalf of MSME industries.
