City Police arrests man who placed pork meat in front of two temples in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Earlier today, an unidentified individual had placed pork in front of Sri Venugopala Krishnaswamy and Sri Ragavendra Temples at Sullivan Street in Coimbatore. Acting swiftly, the City police on Friday evening arrested a 48-year-old man for placing meat in front of the two temples in Coimbatore.
The man has been identified as Hari Ramprakash (48) from Kavundampalayam. He is an unemployed civil engineer who seems to be mentally deranged, initial reports confirmed. Police have confirmed that the accused had purchased pork from a shop, on Friday morning.
Officials added that Hari Prakash appeared to be mentally deranged; however there are no medical records to substantiate this.
Two separate cases have been registered against him under three sections of the Indian Penal Code; 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) 295 A (deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), and 298 (uttering words etc, with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings) .
Reports say that upon reviewing CCTV footage from the area, the man was spotted parking his motorcycle near the temples and walked with a package towards them. However, he later returned empty handed. Based on the motocycle's registration number, the police have traced and arrested Hari Prakash. He further added that the city has been equipped with CCTV cameras in many places aiding police officials in cracking cases faster.
The City Police Commissioner in a tweet confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection to the issue. He also requested the public to refrain from sparking controversies in social media. The Commissioner appealed to the people to act with responsibility.
Upon inquiring the neighbours of the accused, they reported that he is not mentally stable and had fought with a few of them, on Thursday night.
Tense situation prevailed in the area after over 100 Hindu Munnani cadres gathered demanding action against the miscreant.
