COVID-19: No new cases in Coimbatore, Tirupur and the Nilgiris; a new high of 874 cases in TN

Coimbatore: Nine people died, as Tamil Nadu registered 874 COVID-19 positive cases on Friday. The total death count has reached 154 in the State.


Coimbatore: With nine novel Coronavirus succumbing to the illness, Tamil Nadu also registered a new high of 874 positive cases on Friday. The COVID-19 death toll has soared to 154 in the State.

With 874 new cases on Friday, the state sped across the 20,000 mark. The total tally of COVID cases has reached 20,246. Besides 618 cases in Chennai, 141 returnees from other states tested positive, a bulletin from the state health department said.

No new cases have been reported in Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Tirupur districts.

Till date, 155 returnees under railway quarantine have tested positive in the State. With 131 positive passengers from other states, 45 people flown in from other nations, who tested negative upon arrival, turned positive today.

As of today, 4,66,550 samples have been tested and 20,246 have tested positive while 4,45,668 were negative. Testing of 636 samples are under process. A total of 21,356 samples are repeats.

The number of positive patients who have been discharged following treatment so far stands at 11,313 making the count of active cases under treatment 8,776.

The general public are advised to adhere to health and travel advisories issued by the state Government. Public should follow the cough etiquette by covering the face using handkerchief/towel while sneezing and/or coughing. They also should wash their hands frequently with soap and water.
