Coimbatore: With the concerted efforts of the district administration and railways, 38,787 migrant workers from Coimbatore district have been ferried to their respective home states through 31 Shramik trains. Another train left for Bihar with 1600 migrant workers today.
Earlier, the workers were assembled at a private wedding hall. They were provided with food and water and later transported to the railway station around 11 a.m.. Ahead of boarding, they were thermal scanned with the requisite social distancing norms being maintained.
It may be noted that more than 3500 Shramik trains have been operated so far across the nation ferrying 45 lakh migrant workers to their respective states.
Coimbatore Railway Station Director P. Sathesh Saravanan, DRO Ramadurai Murugan, Tahsildar (South) S.Arulmurugan, Deputy Tahsildar (South) Selvam, Revenue Inspector (Coimbatore Town) P. Kathiresan, Revenue Inspector (Singanallur0 Rajendran, VAO Nagrajan, Deputy Tahsildar (North) Manivel, Head Surveyor Chandresakeran, and other government and police officials were present.
Onemore Shramik train has been scheduled to West Bengal later today.
