Due to the COVID-19 lockdown the poor and needy people have been affected greatly. Many political parties and volunteer organisations have been providing relief supplies to them.
The Coonoor MLA Shanthi Ramu has been providing relief supplies in Coonoor and Kotagiri areas.
While he visited the Wellington Cantonment area near Coonoor to provide relief supplies to residents of Babu Village, he was blocked by protesters. The Cantonment Board Vice President Bharathiar, Counselors Durairaj, Srinivasan, Mary Sheeba and Latha waved black flags at his car.
Speaking about this, the Vice President Bharathiar said, "in the past four years, the MLA has not allotted a single rupee to the Cantonment. Further, he did not discuss with me nor the AIADMK City Secretary Durairaj the distribution of relief supplies. He has also shown discrimination in providing relief supplies. In order to register our protest against this, we waved black flags."
The Coonoor MLA Shanthi Ramu said, "this incident was clearly planned due to political animosity. As an MLA, I have carried out the relief supply distribution without any discrimination. An amount of Rs.5 lakhs was allocated to the third ward before the lockdown began. However, the approval for this was not given to me via the Cantonment board. Neither the Vice President nor the members along with him have ever requested for any fund allocation. I will take this issue up with the party leadership."
This incident where AIADMK cadres waved black flags at an AIADMK MLA, a fellow party member, has created a stir in the area.
