Coimbatore SFI petitions the Deputy Director of College Education regarding cancellation of dual shift system in Government Colleges

The cancellation of batches at the Government colleges as proposed by the government could become disruptive to the education of students, opined the Student Federation of India (SFI) and petitioned the Deputy Director of College Education.

Coimbatore: The cancellation of batches at the Government colleges as proposed by the government could become disruptive to the education of students, opined the Student Federation of India (SFI) and petitioned the Deputy Director of College Education.

The District Secretary Dinesh Raja said, "government Colleges follow the shift system and conduct classes in the morning batch and the afternoon batch currently. However, as per the recent government order the system is proposed to be cancelled. This new order could reduce the number of students studying at Government colleges and increase the dropout rate. Hence the government should call this new order off."

Further, he opined, "most of the students studying at the government colleges work part time. If the dual shift system is changed into one general shift, those students would be affected. Further, the first and second year students already in college will be affected by this new rule. The government must therefore give up on this new proposal."

The petition was submitted at the Office of the Deputy Director of College Education by the SFI members.
