Coimbatore: The Confederation of Business Organisations petitioned the Coimbatore District Collector to operate buses to bring back employees from other districts to Coimbatore.
Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, most of the workers from other districts in the state moved away to their native places. As many as 90,000 workers employed in the micro and small business factories went back home. However, businesses have now reopened and small and medium enterprises have begun operations in Coimbatore with certain restrictions. While businesses are affected by the unavailability of employees, employees are affected by the lack of income.
Citing this, the confederation of 19 business associations has petitioned the Coimbatore District Collector stating that they do not have the requisite funds to apply for E-passes to bring back their employees. Hence, they requested the government to operate buses and to take the necessary action to bring back their employees from other districts.
They said although the Central Government has announced the provision of loans at installments over four years without security, the banks state that guidelines for the provision of these loans are not available yet.During these critical times the banks must provide the required loans to the businesses as needed and hence the District Collector must recommend this to the Central government, they requested.
They said while the government has provided time for the payment of the EB bills until June, fines are being collected from those who make payments prior . This is directly against the order of the government and hence the District Administration must take action to reimburse the paid amount to the parties, they insisted.
