Coimbatore: Members of Coimbatore-based dancers’ and folk artists’ associations, on Thursday, submitted a petition to Coimbatore district Collector K Rajamani requesting compensation for the loss of their livelihood due to national lockdown.
The petition stated that first half of a year is the time months they usually earn and with the lockdown was announced, they lost their livelihood. They said some non-governmental organisations have been providing relief to them, but they have reached a point where they would be left in a lurch without government
relief.
The petitioners also said the government should hire artists for awareness programmes so that they can survive the pandemic.
