Coimbatore: A young woman who faked a theft with the help of her accomplices was arrested for being the mastermind behind the theft.
Shanthi (51) and her daughter Sathya (29) of Kamadenu Nagar, Vadavalli are members of a Women's Self Help group. On May 22, Sathya had asked Rs.10,000 from her mother for purchasing a secondhand two wheeler. While Shanthi agreed to it, Sathya also suggested that an auto consultant Pradeep Kumar (37) would help her with the purchase of the vehicle.
Around 2 PM that afternoon when Pradeep Kumar came to Shanthi's house, five masked men entered the house and locked it and looted the place. They stole 12.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery, cellphones and Rs.8,000 cash. They then stripped Pradeep Kumar and Sathya naked and photographed them. The gang warned them against informing anybody of the theft, the failure of which would result in the release of the pictures, and escaped with the loot.
Following this, Pradeep Kumar filed a complaint with the Vadavalli Police station and the police were on the hunt for the culprits. During the investigation, the police uncovered it was indeed Sathya who acted as the mastermind behind the theft. She schemed the theft and executed it along with five accomplices.
The police arrested Sathya, the mastermind, and Sadam Hussein of Kuniyamuthur, one of the accomplices involved in the crime. They are investigating the case further. The cops also have cast nets to nab the other four who were party to the crime.
