WhatsApp group admin not liable for members' posts: Delhi HC
The Delhi High Court has ruled that administrators of groups on messaging platform WhatsApp cannot be held responsible for defamatory content posted by members of the group.
Dismissing a defamation case, the court said that holding the administrator liable will be like holding the manufacturer of the newsprint responsible for anything defamatory printed on it.
Justice Endlaw, in his verdict, specified that when an online chat group is created, its administrator can only advise its members to refrain from posting objectionable content and that the group admin cannot be held for any defamatory comments posted in the group.
