Coimbatore: The 31st Shramik train ferrying 1600 migrant workers left for Assam at 2 p.m. today. With the concerted efforts of the district administration and railways, more than 42,000 migrant workers from Coimbatore district have been ferried to their respective home states through 30 Shramik trains. Another train left for Assam with 1600 migrant workers today.
Earlier, the workers were assembled at a private wedding hall and provided with food. They were later transported to the railway station around 11 a.m. Ahead of boarding, they were thermal scanned with the requisite social distancing norms being maintained.
It may be noted that, so far, 3300 Shramik trains have been operated across the nation ferrying over 43 lakh migrant workers to their respective states.
Coimbatore Railway Station Director P. Sathesh Saravanan, DRO Ramadurai Murugan, Tahsildar (South) S.Arulmurugan, Deputy Tahsildar (South) Selvam, Revenue Inspector (Coimbatore Town) P. Kathiresan, Revenue Inspector (Singanallur0 Rajendran, VAO Nagrajan, Deputy Tahsildar (North) Manivel, Head Surveyor Chandresakeran, and other government and police officials were present.
