COVID-19: Passenger from Chennai tested COVID-19 positive in Coimbatore


Coimbatore: After a long gap of three weeks, Coimbatore has reported one COVID-19 positive case. The 24-year-old man is a traveler from Chennai who arrived to Coimbatore, on Monday.

According to initial reports, a 24-year-old male who arrived to Coimbatore from Chennai via Indigo airlines on Monday has been tested positive for COVID -19. His swab samples collected at the airport screening was subjected to testing and reports have confirmed that he is infected with COVID-19. 

Irrespective of the place, all passengers arriving to Coimbatore international airport are subjected to mandatory COVID-19 screening and are sent to quarantine facilities, until the results arrive. 

Accordingly, around 360 passengers from Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru who arrived to Coimbatore international airport, on Monday were subjected to testing. Swabs were collected from all the passengers and were made to stay at multiple quarantine facilities, until their results arrived.

While the results of 300 passengers turned negative, one passenger, a 24-year-old who was staying at a private hotel"s quarantine facility was tested positive.

Presently, he has been shifted to ESI hospital for treatment. Though tested positive in Coimbatore, the count will be added to Chennai, the officials told.
