Now heat seam sealing machine for PPE kits can be manufactured in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Three garment companies in Tirupur along with an engineering industry have come up with a new heat seam sealing machine used for sealing PPE Kits. Sealking is the locally manufactured machine, designed for sealing sewn seams on Coveralls for health care workers and active wear used for Skiing, snowboarding, cycling, sailing etc.

So far the sealing machines were imported from other countries which would cost between ₹2.5 lakhs to ₹5 lakhs., where as Sealking which is manufactured in Coimbatore under the Make in India theme would cost ₹1.5 lakhs plus GST.

Talking about the machine, P. Thiruvasakamani of TAS textiles stated, “Five of our friends from three companies, TAS textiles, Origin textiles and Triknit together with an engineering company, Race tools have developed a machine which can be used for heat seam sealing.

This machine Sealking, can seal 6.5 mtrs to 7 mtrs per minute which means one garment can be sealed every 5 minutes. The factory is situated near Chinniyampalayam Coimbatore where we can manufacture 10 machines per day”.

“We thought about manufacturing a machine locally because in the manufacture of Coveralls, heat seam sealing machines were not available here and we had to import from other countries like China. Not only was the cost high but also it took a long time for the machines to reach Tirupur. And now since medical textiles are manufactured in large numbers in Tirupur, this machine would prove advantageous because the cost is much economical“ added Thiruvasakamani.

In an event held at Tirupur, Apparel and export council chairman, A. Sakthivel launched the machine which is now available for commercial sale.
