Nilgiris: Traveler from Chennai tested positive for COVID-19 in Ooty. She undergoes treatment at Coimbatore ESI.

As part of the measures being undertaken to control the spread of COVID-19 all over the state, those who travel from one district to another are required to obtain E-passes. On those lines, people who come into Nilgiris with E-passes are isolated at their homes for 14 days.

A 21 year old woman who travelled from Chennai to Nilgiris to visit her mother at Finger Post Old Post Office Street, Ooty tested positive for the virus. Her sputum samples were taken for testing at the Burliyar checkpost. For the past two days, she was isolated at her house and currently her test results have come out positive. Following this, she was admitted to Coimbatore ESI for treatment.

As the woman tested positive belongs to Chennai, the case has been accounted to the Chennai numbers and not the Nilgiris.

The area she visited and stayed over has now been declared a containment zone. The Municipality is disinfecting it three times a day. Additionally, all the residents of the area have been provided with face masks, vitamin C and zinc tables and 'Kabasura kudineer'. Volunteers have been deputed to inform the government regarding the needs of the public in this area. Preparations have been made for the distribution of vegetables and essential groceries, door to door.

Worthy of mention is the news that a driver (male, age-22) from Keezhkozhikarai near Nanjanad village, Ooty Taluk, returning from Koyambedu and testing positive for COVID-19 has now been discharged from Coimbatore ESI after successful treatment.
