In a surprise raid at a shop and a godown in Chinnakarai near Palladam, Food Safety Department confiscated loads of drug-laced sweets and banned tobacco substances.


Tirupur: In a surprise raid at a shop and a godown in Chinnakarai near Palladam, Food Safety Department confiscated loads of drug-laced sweets and banned tobacco substances.

The department received secret information regarding sale of drug-laced sweets and banned tobacco substances at a shop owned by North Indians near a school in Chinnakarai near Palladam. The shop was then subjected to intense scrutiny by the department officials who confirmed the sale of banned substances.



A team comprising food safety officers Vijayalalithambigai and Kesavaraj and others raided the shop today and found banned tobacco substances kept for sale.



Further, from the inquest they conducted with the shop owners, Mrithin Ravath, Prashanth, and Raja from Odisha, they managed to unearth a huge stock of the prohibited items from a nearby godown.



The officials then sealed the shop and the godown and initiated action against the offenders. They also sent samples of the captured goods for chemical testing. The officials promised criminal action against the trio upon receipt of the test results. The incident caused a stir in the area.
