A sanitary worker who went missing was found dead in a well.
Coimbatore: Police are investigating after the body of a contract sanitary worker, who went missing two days ago, was found in a decomposed state in a well. Following stench emanating from a well near Singanallur Railway Gate, the public alerted the Singanallur police.
On arrival to the spot, the police found the body of a male floating in the well. Subsequently, with the help of firefighters, they recovered the decomposed body and sent it to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the deceased was Arun Kumar, son of Ganesan, from CMC Colony in Singanallur and he worked as a contract sanitary worker in the Coimbatore Corporation. Arun Kumar left home two days ago following some misunderstanding with his parents.
With no knowledge about his whereabouts for more than a day, the parents lodged a complaint with the Singanallur police. Under the circumstances, it has been confirmed the body retrieved from the well was of Arun Kumar.
Investigations have revealed that Arun Kumar had been boozing with his friends near the well where his mortal remains were found. Police are investigating whether he committed suicide or slipped into the well in an inebriated state.
