Leopard hunts dogs and chickens in broad daylight: Valparai Forest Department investigates the incident.

Coimbatore: After a gruesome incident where a leopard preyed on a pet dog in Kamaraj street in Valparai earlier this month, the Forest Department has intensified patrols. A slew of report sightings have been reported.

Under these circumstances, around 7 a.m. this morning, a leopard hunted chicken behind the co-operative bank, which is located in the heart of Valparai. The sprawling and bustling area has more than 500 houses with many important landmarks such as government high schools, primary health centre, and bus station in the vicinity.

The leopard disappeared into nearby bushes when the public made noises. Upon information, the forest officials have camped at the scene. They are engaged in observing the leopard movement in the area under the supervision of Manampalli Forest Chief Officer Natarajan.

A large number of people have gathered in the area to catch a glimpse of the big cat. The police have instituted security with Valparai Police Inspector Maheshwari supervising the operations.

Forest officials say that the shrubs around houses here make it easier for wildlife to hide. They urged immediate removal of the dense bushes. The incident has created a stir in Valparai.
