CPI (M) protests elimination of labour-friendly laws, in Irugur

The Central Trade Union held protests all over Coimbatore condemning Modi's Central Government's move to eliminating labour laws using the lockdown as an opportunity.

Coimbatore: The Central Trade Union held protests all over Coimbatore condemning Modi's Central Government's move to eliminating labour laws using the lockdown as an opportunity.

They said all over the world, countries are engaged in measures to fight the COVID-19 pandemic with lockdowns and various preventative activities.

In a similarly critical situation in India, the Central government is in a bid to sell all the public sector undertakings and eliminate all the labour laws in favour of corporates because of which central trade unions had called for protests all over the country in more than 10,000 places.

As a part of this, protests were held on behalf of the Irugur CPI(M). Protestors held black flags and raised slogans against the proposed increase in working hours.

They also demanded the government should not change the labour laws in favour of the corporates. Other demands included full payment for the workers for the entire period of lockdown, food and water facilities for migrant workers, and proper travel arrangements for the migrant workers who wish to travel back to their home states. They raised slogans demanding these.

CPI(M) branches at 100 places in Coimbatore held these protests and many members participated in them.
