The Nilgiris: The pre-monsoon wildlife census and monitoring began at the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve this morning today morning and will go on until May 26.
A total of 32 central points noted within the three zones of Kaarkudi, Mudumalai and Theppakadu saw the commencement of the census this morning. Hundreds of people including forest department workers and students are involved in the census.
All those who were to participate in the census were earier trained and provided equipment at Theppakadu. Visual presence of wildlife, footprints and animal excretion will be used to compile the census data which will be sent to the National Tiger Protection Authority, informed the Forest Department.
