The 21st Shramik train from Coimbatore ferries 1600 migrant workers to Bihar

Coimbatore: The 21st Shramik train from Coimbatore and the 9th one to Bihar left Coimbatore at 8.00 p.m. today. The train ferries 1600 guest workers from Bihar.

Earlier today, the travellers were taken to Nallayan Kalyana Mandapam near the train station where they were provided food and water bottles. They were issued tokens and taken to the station by 5 in the evening. With social distancing norms being maintained, workers were then thermal screened and provided face masks. They then boarded the train, which was flagged off from Coimbatore at 8 p.m.

The necessary arrangements were made by Tahsildar South S.Arulmurugan, Deputy Tahsildar South Selvam, Revenue Inspector Coimbatore Town Kathiresan, Revenue Inspector Singanallur Rajendran, VAO Nagrajan, Deputy Tahsildar North Manivel and Head Surveyor Chandresakeran. Police Department coordinated the arrangements and the gathered travellers.



Meanhwhile, the migrant workers from Odisha have been disappointed because trains to their home state were cancelled due to Cyclone Amphan. Lot of enquiries are being made about the availability of trains in the near future to to West Bengal, Odisha, Maharastra, and Rajasthan.

Per Railway Minister Piyush Goyal's tweet earlier, 2050 Shramik trains have ferried over 30 lakh migrants back to their home states.

Coimbatore has managed to transport 29,523 guest workers through 21 Sharmik trains.
