Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner and special officer J. Shravan Kumar participated in a webinar with the Central Smart City Director Kunal Kumar to update regarding the progress of the Smart City projects today.
In the webinar, the Corporation Commissioner spoke about the coordinated measures taken to control the spread of COVID-19 in the Coimbatore Corporation and the district. Further, he also listed the measures taken to provide groceries and vegetables to all the houses in the district and disinfecting measures that were undertaken to keep the district clean. Presently, Coimbatore is clear of COVID-19 cases.He also informed that the suggestions provided by the Smart City Projects team at Delhi helped greatly in preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the district.
He also said, "discussions were held regarding the transfer of funds for the Smart City projects from the Central Government directly into the bank accounts of the project executors. Further, migrant workers who were involved in the construction and other works of the Smart City projects have now left for their home states. This has caused the projects to be delayed. Hence the extension of deadlines for the projects was also discussed."
"Suggestions for the construction of footpaths in crowded streets of Coimbatore provided by the German Advisory Committee (GIZ) were welcomed by the public. Further discussions were held regarding means of transport other than motor vehicles was also discussed," informed the Corporation Commissioner.
