Coimbatore: While efforts are underway to double the Sharmik trains to ferry the migrant workers stranded across the states to their home towns, 21 trains have been operated from Coimbatore to send back the migrant workers home.
Coimbatore: While efforts are underway to double the Sharmik trains to ferry the migrant workers stranded across the states to their home towns, 21 trains have been operated from Coimbatore to send back the migrant workers home.
The 21st Shramik train is all set to leave the Coimbatore railway station to Bihar at 8 pm tonight with 1600 migrant workers tonight. With this, 27,923 migrant workers have so far been sent to their respective states. Expenses close to ₹2.25 crore have been incurred by the State government toward this.
So far, the Shramik special trains from Coimbatore have been operated to seven States - Bihar (9), UttarPradesh (4), Odisha (3), Jharkhand (2) and one each for Assam, Rajasthan and MadhyaPradesh.
The Indian Railways has operated more than 1,600 'Shramik Special' trains since May 1 and ferried over 21.5 lakh migrants back home.
