1041 migrant workers who arrived to UP from various States tested positive for COVID
Lucknow: Days after thousands of migrant workers across the nation continued to walk home, as they could not find out any transport, the centre announced of additional special "Shramik" trains to transport the migrant workers to their home states. The special trains have been in operation since May 1.
The worst fears of the States of such migrant workers becoming possible carriers of COVID-19 has come true, as 1,041 migrants who have returned to Uttar Pradesh from various states have been found infected with coronavirus.
"UP also reported 249 new COVID-19 cases in total in the 24 hours till Wednesday. Coronavirus cases among migrant workers who have returned home to Uttar Pradesh continue to rise.
A spike in coronavirus infection among the returnees was seen in Barabanki district, 30 km east of Lucknow, with 50 new cases reported in 24 hours and 45 more on Wednesday evening, taking the total in the district to 95 in a single day", as reported by NDTV.
According to the UP government's data 43,625 samples have been collected from those who have returned to the state.
