Three trains were sent off today with the co-operation of the District Administration and the Police Department. The trains took the migrant workers to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Coimbatore: Three Shramik trains were flagged off today by the District Administration and City Police Department. The trains took the migrant workers to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
The first train left Coimbatore junction for Bihar at 2 PM with 1,464 adults and 50 children, the second left for Uttar Pradesh at 6 PM with 1,464 adults and 60 children, and the third one left for Madhya Pradesh with 836 adults and 50 children at 8.30 PM as scheduled.
Earlier the reservants were taken to the Nalanya Community Hall near the Railway Station.
They were provided food and water and after confirmation of their identities, were issued tokens.
Two hours before the departure of respective trains, they were taken to the railway station while social distancing was maintained. They were then given sanitizers and masks. Thermal checks by the Health department officials and health workers were conducted.
They were guided to get their ticketing and boarding by social activists Harish Patel and Kishore Jain. Earlier they provided guidance to the migrants in their native language. People from more than four districts were benefitted.
South Tahsildar S. Arulmurugan, Deputy South Tahsildar Selvam, Revenue Inspector, Coimbatore Town. P. Kathiresan, Singanallur Revenue Inspector Rajendran, VAO Nagarajan, North Deputy Tahsildar Manivel, and Head Surveyor Chandrasekaran made all necessary arrangements.
Meanwhile, the train that left Coimbatore on Tuesday for Rajasthan reached Maharashtra this evening. The railway and social service organizations provided them food, milk, tea and snacks at Solapur and Pune Stations. The Rajasthan train will reach Jaipur on May 21 afternoon.
