Following this, the Palakkad District Collector had granted an exemption to the students to cross the borders of the state to write their exams. Students will have to present their hall tickets at the check post to obtain this concession.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Collector contacted the Palakkad District Collector Balamurali and discussed the logistical challenges being faced by the students in Attapadi, to write their public exams.
Following this, the Palakkad District Collector had granted an exemption to the students to cross the borders of the state to write their exams. Students will have to present their hall tickets at the check post to obtain this concession.
Earlier today, news regarding the plight of the students at Attapadi who were refused entry TN through the Anaikatti check post was flashed by the media.
The Government Tribal Residential High school at Anaikatti is located on the borders of Kerala and TN where tribal and other Tamil students from Attappadi, Solaiyur, Agazhi and Kulikadavu areas study. The school has been functional for more than 60 years.Many students from the school have always travelled eight kilometers to write their board exams at the Chinna Thadagam School.
However, for the first time in the history of the school, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, exams are being conducted on campus because of which 21 students from the Attapadi area who have to travel to the school to write their exams are now left in a lurch. Similarly, 15 students of class 11 of the Chinna Thadagam Higher Secondary school were also facing difficulty in writing their exams.
Following this, the Coimbatore District Collector K. Rajamani said that he would ensure that no student would be caused any hinderance to travel via the Anaikatti checkpost to come into TN. He also said that he had spoken to the Palakkad District Collector regarding the issue and further assured that they would not be isolated when they come into the state to write their exams.
He also contacted the Palakkad District Collector Balamurali and insisted on granting permission to the students to travel for writing their exams who concurred. In the notice issued by the Palakkad District Collector, he said, "exemption has been granted to the students who have to cross the state borders to write their exams.
Students can present their hall tickets at the check posts in order to be granted entry. Further, one person will be granted permission to travel with the students when they travel to write their exams."
