Coimbatore: Dance artists in Coimbatore arrived at the Coimbatore District Collectorate to submit a petition requesting financial assistance for payment of dance studio rent and permission to conduct dance programmes. They wore costumes depicting coronavirus.
Dance artists who arrived at the District Collectorate in costumes depicting coronavirus said, "due to the spread of COVID-19, dance artists have been out of action for the past two months and have had no income. To assist and support those dependent on this industry an association called 'Save & Support Dance Industries' was formed. For the past two months families dependent on this industry were helped relief measures."
They also said, "there are 45 dance studios in the city which operate in rental buildings. The District Collector must therefore initiate action to waive off the rent for the two months that the studios have not been in operation. Also more than 25 families of make-up artists are dependent on the dance industry. Therefore we request seek from the District Collector to begin conducting dance programmes."
