The house of couple, Vedamuthu and Sebasti, is situated in the Raghavendra Colony in Urumandampalayam, near G.N. Mills. Their maid Arulmary also lives at the residence.
A gang of 5 members jumped over the walls of the house around 1 AM and pried open the main door with an iron rod.
They then tied up Vedamuthu, Sebasti and Arulmary following which the house was looted.
The victims later helped each other and untied their hands and then informed the Thudiyalur police who rushed to the spot. Coimbatore District Police Superintendent Sujith Kumar, Deputy Police Superintendent and forensic experts arrived at the spot with sniffer dogs and conducted an inspection.
Four of the thieves had apparently spoken Hindi which, led to the alleged conclusion that they were thieves from North India. Police have therefore started investigating this angle.
The incident caused a stir in the area and has triggered panic.
