Coimbatore: An inebriated wife who murdered her husband and tried to pass it off as death by an accidental fall was arrested and imprisoned. Medical examination revealed that it was a murder. Police have imprisoned the accomplice too.
Annamalai and Priya, a couple from the Naduvaneri area of Salem district, were working as daily wage labourers in the Periyakuyili village near Chettipalayam. Allegedly, both of them were liquor drinkers. On May 17, they consumed alcohol at their house and, under the influence of alcohol, got into an argument. In a fit of anger, Priya killed her husband by crushing his head with a stone.
Following this, she called her sister's husband, Selvaraj, in Salem and informed him of the incident, who hired an ambulance in Salem, came to Coimbatore, and transported Annamalai's corpse to Salem. At a Salem Hospital, they pretended that Annamalai had an accidental fall in an inebriated state and injured himself badly.
However, a medical examination identified the death as a murder upon which the Chettipalayam police were informed, who reached Salem yesterday evening, arrested Priya and her accomplice Selvaraj, and brought them back to Coimbatore.
Following investigation, they were produced at the court and imprisoned. Annamalai's body is kept at the Salem Government Hospital for autopsy.
