Wildlife survey in Valparai Forest Reserve commences
Coimbatore: Wildlife survey commenced in Valparai forest reserve today. Valparai Wildlife Sanctuary in the District of Coimbatore is home to a large number of fauna including leopards, tigers, elephants, bears, wild boars and bison.
A summer wildlife survey training programme was conducted at the Forest Management Training centre in Attakatti, Valparai upon orders from the District Forest Officer Arokiaraj Xavier. Subsequently, the survey was started in the Kadambara Division of Valparai Forest Reserve. Valparai Forest Officer Senthil Kumar and Forest Officer Muniyandi initiated the survey today.
The footprints of wild animals, animal markings such scratches in trees, carcasses of animals, etc were searched and accounted for.A team of 5 staff was involved in the process.
The survey will continue until June 25 in Valparai, Manampalli, Topslip and Pollachi Forest Reserves.
A total of 64 groups have been deployed for this purpose.
