Training camp on Summer Census of wild animals held at the Anamalai Tiger Reserve

A training camp for the wild animal Summer Census was held at the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. More than 100 Forest Department workers participated in the same.


Coimbatore: A training camp for the wild animal summer census was held at the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. More than 100 Forest Department workers took part in the same.

The Anamalai Tiger Reserve is home to leopards, tigers, elephants, lion-tailed macaques, deer, mountain goats, bears, wild boars and bison. A Summer Census of the animals at the reserve is being planned to be conducted. In order to train the workers on the census techniques, a training camp was held at the Forest Management Training Centre at Attakatti, Valparai.

Forest department officers, foresters, forest department workers and poaching-prevention guards participated in the training camp. The trainees were taught methods to account for animals that they spot and the procedures that need to be followed.



More than 100 trainees participated in the camp. They were divided into two groups in order to observe social distancing norms.



Prior to the training, all the participants were checked for body temperature using a thermal scanner and hand sanitizers were used. Participants were permitted to enter only after donning face masks.

The census will commence tomorrow and will be carried on until May 25. Forest Department workers will be separated into 64 groups for the purpose.
