Drivers' Association petitions Coimbatore District Collector seeking moratorium for three more months.

Coimbatore: Members of 'Urimai' Drivers' Association, on Monday, urged the Coimbatore district collector to provide at least three more months of moratorium for EMIs as they have lost their livelihoods due to the Coronavirus lockdown.

Ever since the lockdown was initiated due to the Coronavirus spread, the drivers of taxis, autos and maxicabs lost their earnings completely. The shutdown declared for educational institutions, malls and theaters has disrupted their customer base.

Although the government has provided three month-moratorium for the loans from banks and other financial institutions, the Drivers' Association has requested the District Collector to give them three more months of EMI waivers to help them recover from financial constraints.

They also requested him to provide an extension until September 30 for renewal of certificate of competence, permit, batch licenses and payment of road tax. They have also pleaded that all the badge licence holders be provided 20,000 rupees as relief fund as it would take around 6 months for them to return to at least semblance of normalcy.
