Rs. 50000 fine for poaching venison
Coimbatore: The forest department fined Rs. 50,000 for five persons who consumed deer meat in Mettupalayam. The Nellithurai Forest Reserve, which falls under the Mettupalayam Forest Range is home to a large number of fauna such as tiger, leopard, elephant, moose, spotted deer and wild boar.
One of the deers was hunted by a carnivore in the forest the remains of which were consumed by Krishnan (43), son of Dasan, and Selvaraj (49), son of Palaniappan, from Nandavana Pudur near Nellithuraivillage, who sliced 5 kg meat from the remains and took it home for consumption.
The meat was split betweeen them and their relatives, Ramasamy (37), Selvam (45) and Chinnammani (42). The Mettupalayam Forest Department received confidential information about this and seized the meat and a case was filed by Mettupalayam Forest Officer S. Selvaraj, Sundampatti Division Forest Officer Sriram, Mettupalayam Division Forest Officer Suresh, Sundampatti Circle Forest Officer Vijayakumar, Kallar Circuit Forest Officer Aravindan, and Sundapatti Circuit Forest Reserve officer and the anti-poaching team.
The offenders been sentenced a fine of Rs.10,000 / - each.
