Coimbatore: With the lockdown extension in place,District Collector, K Rajamani has clarified restrictions and relaxations on Inter-district travel guidelines.
Though the new guidelines allow considerable relaxations in terms of Inter-district and Inter-State movement of vehicles, people have been unclear of the procedures in procuring e-pass and the restrictions, thereafter.
Inter-district travel
Though inter-district travel is permitted for labourers and those who travel for business reasons, they will have to make arrangements to stay in the district and carry out their work. They will not be allowed to travel from one district to another district, on a daily basis.
For example: A one-time pass can be obtained to travel to Tirupur or the Nilgiris for work puposes. No daily passes will be issued to travel between the districts on a daily basis.
At district checkposts, temperatures will be checked and if fever or other symptoms are found, they will not be allowed.
Travelling to other cities
In case of travelling to other cities like Madurai, Trichy etc., people have to apply online e-pass and seek permission from the district administration of their destination place. Upon permission to travel, they will be quarantined for seven days and will be permitted into the city only after ensuring they do not exhibit any COVID symptoms.
Travelling to other States
Stating the reason of travel, an e-pass can be obtained from the other States. The restrictions imposed by the State would apply to all travellers whether they travel from red, orange or green zones. Depending on the COVID cases at their States, each State have announced their own restrictions and quarantine period for the passengers travelling from other states. So, people who obtain e-passes should go well-prepared to remain in quarantine for 7-14 days.
Maximum passengers in car/van
Only three people including the driver is permitted in cars and upto seven people can travel in vans. Buses, both government and private can carry a maximum number of only 20 passengers.
All people who commute should compulsorily wear face masks and wash their hands frequently. Importantly, those who experience any COVID symptoms like fever, cough or tiredness should refrain from travelling.
